Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned environmental modeller and skilled software engineer to join our team in developing and maintaining the Agricarbon Ecosystem Model (AEM). With strong Python expertise, you will translate complex modelling concepts into robust code that enhances our ability to predict soil carbon levels and agricultural system interactions.

This role requires adaptability, allowing you to work independently and as a key member of a multi-disciplinary team. Your technical skills will be crucial in implementing machine learning models using Python libraries, ensuring seamless data flow between model components, and configuring, running, and extending existing model components.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing automated testing frameworks to validate and improve model performance, producing comprehensive technical documentation, and communicating technical modelling concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Model Components & Integration: Working with agricultural ecosystem models, plant growth models, soil organic carbon models, soil water models, mineral nitrogen models, and grazing models.
  • Model Integration: Implementing and maintaining the integration between different AEM components, ensuring seamless data flow between plant growth, soil carbon, water, nitrogen, and livestock models.
  • Technical Development: Contributing to the development and maintenance of the Bayesian data assimilation framework, ensuring robust uncertainty quantification and model calibration.
  • Machine Learning Integration: Evaluating and implementing machine learning and statistical models using Python libraries to enhance overall accuracy and predictive power.
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate has advanced programming skills in Python, experience with ecosystem models or related areas, and proficiency in Bayesian statistical libraries. A Master's degree or PhD in Data Science, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related field is also required.
