Job Title: Product Development Specialist

• Manage the entire lifecycle of automotive components, from design to delivery.
• Utilize advanced CAD software and tools to create detailed designs and models.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide manufacturing engineering support.
• Offer application engineering support to ensure products meet customer needs.
• Apply GD&T principles and perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure product quality.
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of DFMEA methodologies.
• Interact effectively with cross-functional teams to drive project success.
• Investigate issues related to Value Package Introduction (VPI) programs or field-based problems, identify root causes, recommend solutions, and own problem resolution from a design perspective.
• Apply and support the execution of processes such as Critical Design Decisions, System Design and Validation Consideration Checklist, Design Review, and tools like iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, CREO, and ANSYS Workbench.
• Obtain input and negotiate with cross-functional and cross-discipline technical experts and senior-level designers to communicate product design intent.
• Support design decision-making in areas of concept selection, optimization, and specifications.
• Own problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems, or services.
• Independently execute established work processes and systems while developing technology or product knowledge.
• Promote process improvement and engage with the development of new systems.
• Collaborate with technicians and/or temporary student employees to coordinate and direct work efforts.

• Cross-Functional Design Integration: Translate value package requirements into virtual designs, considering stakeholder voices, and communicate design capability through approved reviews.
• Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis: Create CAD models in accordance with industry standards to represent architectural or product-level system design concepts and enable completion of various analyses.
• Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems: Develop an in-depth understanding of mechanical systems to create innovative and sound design concepts meeting Cummins and customer expectations.
• Mechanical Design Specification: Create complete specifications in solid models, configured bill of materials, and detailed drawings communicating information required to manufacture and inspect products per their design intent.
• Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis: Impact product design decisions by utilizing computational tools and methods predicting product function relative to its system, sub-system, and/or component level requirements.
• System Requirements Engineering: Use appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements, establishing acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation, and negotiation, tracking status throughout the system lifecycle.
• Collaboration: Build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
• Effective Communication: Develop and deliver multi-mode communications conveying a clear understanding of unique audience needs.

• Technical Documentation: Document information based on knowledge gained as part of technical activities; communicate to stakeholders enabling improved technical productivity and effective knowledge transfer.
• Product Development Execution, Monitoring, and Control: Plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute activities involved in developing a product aligned with hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles; monitor and communicate across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations.

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM field or equivalent experience is required.
• This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

• Relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area is preferred.
• Knowledge of MS Office and CREO tools is also beneficial.
