Lead Database Administrator Job Description

About the Role:

In this pivotal role, you will spearhead a team of skilled DBAs, providing technical guidance and mentorship to drive optimal database performance and security.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases for peak performance and reliability
  • Developing and executing comprehensive backup, recovery, and failover procedures to ensure business continuity
  • Meticulous monitoring of database performance and implementing data-driven optimizations to enhance query efficiency
  • Tuning database parameters to achieve optimal performance and minimize bottlenecks
  • Designing and implementing robust security measures to safeguard sensitive database data
  • Managing user access and privileges with precision and expertise
  • Staying abreast of the latest security best practices and emerging vulnerabilities
  • Leading a high-performing team of DBAs and fostering a collaborative culture through effective leadership and mentorship
  • Evaluating database usage patterns and proactively planning for future capacity needs
  • Identifying potential performance issues and implementing proactive solutions
  • Responding to critical database incidents and outages in a timely and efficient manner
  • Troubleshooting complex database issues with ease and resolving them quickly
  • Implementing measures to prevent future incidents and minimizing downtime
  • Planning and executing seamless database migrations to new versions or hardware
  • Ensuring minimal disruption during migration processes by automating routine tasks
  • Developing innovative scripts and tools to automate database administration and improve efficiency

Requirements:

  • A deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals, architecture, and advanced performance tuning techniques
  • Proven experience in database administration, including installation, configuration, backup, recovery, and security
  • Exceptional SQL skills, including query optimization and performance tuning
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix operating systems and ability to navigate complex system environments
  • Experience with scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Perl and ability to leverage them effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven track record of success
