Director of Finance Job Description

The Director of Finance plays a pivotal role in the executive leadership team, driving financial performance and ensuring compliance.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of all finance-related functions to enhance revenue and profitability across diverse operations.
  • Management of everyday activities, planning, and assigning work to ensure optimal staffing numbers.
  • Development of the finance team through coaching and feedback, with a focus on creating performance and development goals.
  • Training the team to deliver results while adhering to company standards and providing necessary tools for efficiency.
  • Recommendation or initiation of HR-related actions as needed.
  • Guidance on how decision-making impacts profits.
  • Fostering a great working environment for teams to thrive, connecting departments to create a sense of unity.
Financial Control:
  • Implementation and maintenance of acceptable accounting practices in line with company policy and procedures.
  • Ensuring financial control procedures and systems are ethical and legal.
  • Participation in local recognized professional and industry organizations.
Guest Experience:
  • Providing assistance to guests, addressing requests or complaints promptly.
  • Maintenance of accounting practices that support the guest experience through payment options (e.g., credit card systems, room charges, inventory controls, and financial dispute resolution).
Accountabilities:
  • This is the top Accounting job in a large, luxury, or resort hotel.
  • Supervision of clerical accounting employees in a full range of functions such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit Collections, Purchasing, Audit, Payroll, and/or Accounting Operations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, higher education qualification, or equivalent in Accounting and Finance.
  • 4-8 years' experience in hotel accounting or audit, with at least one year in an Assistant Controller or similar supervisory role, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting management duties (e.g., negotiating hotel space and tenant leases, processing payroll, performing asset management duties, providing business projections, displacement analysis, preparing government reports, filing tax returns, etc.).
  • Professional accounting or finance designation or certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in local languages; other languages preferred.
