Database Administration Specialist

The Database Administrator role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of DMSII databases. A DBA's primary responsibility is to oversee the installation, configuration, and administration of these databases.

  • Perform thorough installation, configuration, and administration of DMSII databases to ensure optimal performance.

  • Monitor database performance, space utilization, and availability on Unisys mainframes closely to identify potential bottlenecks.

  • Implement effective management strategies for sets, subsets, and indexes to guarantee efficient data access.

  • Maintain accurate backups, journals, and roll-forward recovery procedures to prevent data loss and ensure business continuity.

  • Collaborate with development teams to implement schema changes and perform database reorganizations as needed.

  • Support capacity planning efforts and ensure data integrity across all environments through regular audits.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot performance or access issues efficiently.

  • Participate in comprehensive disaster recovery testing to validate compliance with backup policies.

  • Develop and maintain robust security measures, audit trails, and user access controls to safeguard sensitive data.

  • Document best practices, configuration details, and recovery procedures for future reference.

To excel in this position, you must possess a strong understanding of DMSII database administration principles, along with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with relevant tools, such as DMUTILITY, DMSUPPORT, and database reorganization tools, is highly beneficial.

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required, along with 3–5 years of experience in DMSII database administration. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
