Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced operating system engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of operating systems and distributions, with a strong background in kernel development and low-level system engineering.
The role involves leading the delivery of a team of engineers for a key aspect of Ubuntu Linux, driving technical direction and coordination with other teams. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
The ideal candidate will be well-organised, motivated, and able to thrive in a remote work environment. Expert knowledge of C programming, Python, and Bash scripting is required, as well as experience with git version control and software packaging formats such as Ubuntu/Debian/Snap.
Prior experience developing device drivers, BSPs, and other low-level system engineering is highly regarded. Additionally, experience with Rust and its application to the Linux kernel is desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive technical direction and lead delivery of a team of junior and mid-career engineers
- Collaborate daily with senior technical leadership on ensuring Ubuntu stays at the pinnacle of Linux distributions
- Work closely with management to track and coordinate initiatives to delivery
Requirements:
- Expert understanding of the C programming language
- Demonstrated expertise working in a *nix-based operating system kernel and distribution
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Ability to travel internationally for company events
- Well-organised and motivated self-starter
