Job Opportunity:

The role of a Same Day Surgery Coding Specialist involves accurate coding of surgical procedures performed on the same day as patient admission.

This position requires adherence to coding guidelines and regulations while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coding professionals will review and analyze medical records, operative reports, and other documentation for accurate procedure and diagnosis coding.
  • The assignment of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for same-day surgeries must adhere to coding guidelines and payer requirements.
  • Collaboration with clinical staff is essential for clarifying documentation when necessary to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Staying updated on changes in coding standards, regulations, and best practices is crucial for compliance and enhanced coding accuracy.
  • Educating and supporting clinical staff regarding proper documentation practices and coding requirements is a vital part of this role.
  • Assistance in preparing reports related to coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance is also required.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in health information management or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or similar credential is highly valued.
  • At least 4 years of experience in medical coding, with specific experience in same-day surgery coding being advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures is essential.
  • Proficiency in coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems is also required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for success in this role.
