Database Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Specialist to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of DB2 and IMS databases on IBM zOS platforms.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of DB2 and IMS databases on IBM zOS platforms.
  • Perform advanced performance optimization, capacity planning, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Manage database migrations, version upgrades, and patching with minimal downtime.
  • Monitor and resolve complex database issues using tools like OMEGAMON, BMC MainView, CA Detector, and APPTUNE.
  • Collaborate with application teams to optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models.
  • Implement and enforce database security policies, including access controls and auditing.
  • Automate routine database tasks using JCL, REXX, and scheduling tools like CA7 or ESP.
  • Provide 24x7 support for production environments and lead on-call rotations.
  • Participate in Agile-Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, and release management.
Required Skills and Technologies:
  • Deep expertise in DB2 for zOS v10 and above and IMS DBDC.
  • JCL, COBOL, CICS, VSAM, RACF, ACF2.
  • Utilities: REORG, RUNSTATS, LOADUNLOAD, COPY, RECOVER, MODIFY.
  • Experience with Data replication tools (e.g., IBM InfoSphere), database modeling tools (e.g., CA Erwin, IBM Data Studio), and change management tools (e.g., Endevor ChangeMan).
  • Strong understanding of data sharing, Sysplex, and high availability configurations.
Education and Certifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Preferred: IBM Certified Database Administrator - DB2 for zOS or equivalent.
