Cargo Operations Senior Manager Job Description

Main Responsibilities:

  • Execute vessel and port terminal operations for all areas under QSC scope.
  • Define processes for load and discharge activities and cost reporting.
  • Ensure the team follows defined SLA and KPIs set by management/areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the Cargo Operations team, executing the Ops strategy across all areas to ensure strategic initiatives and daily tasks are completed within SLA/KPI/targets defined by areas/regions.
  2. Responsible for executing port terminal operations within agreed timelines and continuously improving processes.
  3. Coordinate with terminals and ports/partners for respective service vessels.
  4. Coordinate with respective area offices.
  5. Optimize vessel operations, guiding the ops team to maximize vessel lifting.
  6. Monitor smooth operations of main line vessels.
  7. Drive cost savings and implement verifiable measures to monitor savings.
  8. Review team work knowledge and take necessary steps to improve.
  9. Ensure vessel, port, and cargo operations comply with local rules/regulations and safety/security procedures.
  10. Trace shipments to ensure all containers are loaded as booked.
  11. Check information at the terminal and Hapag-Lloyd systems against actual documentation for hazardous cargo indications.
  12. Provide forecasts to terminals and vessel planners on cargo set to sail.
  13. Prepare, coordinate, and supervise transshipment activities.
  14. Ensure timely vessel loading and unloading.
  15. Act as the initial point of contact for claims, notifying the proper parties of damaged equipment/cargo and arranging surveys.
  16. Prepare hazardous manifests and collect hazardous dock receipts.
  17. Provide Terminal Departure Reports to vessel planners after vessel sailing.
  18. Maintain vessel arrival and departure information as required.
  19. Validate invoices for storage, reefer monitoring, and terminal costs.
  20. Reconcile cargo booked for vessels at cut-off dates to avoid imbalances at the terminal.
  21. Arrange and provide cost estimates for special shipments.
  22. Solve terminal booking problems, update systems, and assist customers/drivers with issues.
  23. Review processes for standardization, automation, and migration to GSC. Review reports for standardization and redundancy.
  24. Ensure timely cost reporting with high accuracy.
  25. Steer cost-saving measures/initiatives for all reporting areas. Ensure no customer complaints from Cargo Ops.
