Job Title: Project Lead

This role is to work as part of a team to support the delivery of projects.

The job holder will be working under the supervision of a senior or project engineer to carry out various functions including:

  • Preparing feasibility study reports and reviewing them with senior management;
  • Working with the team to assemble a design specification, agree its format and content, and monitor and review its preparation ensuring timely delivery;
  • Agreeing and monitoring scope of works with senior management and other stakeholders;
  • Clearly defining building requirements and purpose of use with senior management and the team to allow detailed design;
  • Carrying out detailed design to industry standards, including complex calculations and coordination issues;
  • Reviewing and monitoring the production of calculations and ensuring they meet quality and technical standards;
  • Ensuring that information for project costing preparation is completed in requisite detail and to deadlines, and keeping the team informed regarding design progress through explanation of design decisions;
  • Providing documentary information via the team to assist in the preparation of tender documents, ensuring that information for tender preparation is completed in requisite detail and to deadlines;
  • Coordinating project contracts documents (drawings and specifications) and reviewing input from team members;
  • Dealing with day-to-day queries from the team, ensuring that relevant information is available on time for construction activity;
  • Reporting any variance between the works constructed and the design intent to senior management and other stakeholders;
  • Project managing commissions from the team, using applicable project management tools;
  • Leading the design process and encouraging the rest of the team to deliver appropriate and cost-effective solutions to the agreed programme;
  • Fully adhering to document control, archiving CDM and QA processes relevant to project work, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports and correspondence are issued, and filed in an appropriate manner, coaching junior staff in their usage;
  • Raising the level of technical competence within the teams;
  • Implementing delivery and quality measurement processes;
  • Promoting technical excellence in all our projects;
  • Undertaking technical reviews and contributing to concept design;
  • Providing continuous feedback to senior management on the effectiveness of protocols and processes in place with a view to continuous improvement;
  • Developing positive professional relationships with colleagues, communicating openly about project progress;
  • Participating in team meetings, disseminating information within the team, and communicating with other teams;
