Music Educator Position

About Lady Andal House of Children is an established special school in Chennai. We are seeking a skilled Music Educator who can design and implement music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities.

Role Overview

The ideal candidate must have expertise in therapeutic music practices, knowledge of adaptive music education, and experience working with children with special educational needs.

We require the successful candidate to work collaboratively with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lesson Planning: Design and implement music lessons that cater to students with different abilities and learning styles.
  • Adaptive Techniques: Utilize assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Expression and Communication: Promote music as a tool for self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Therapeutic Integration: Collaborate with therapy teams to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to individualized education plans.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behavior sensitively.
Skills and Qualifications
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Carnatic/Hindustani Music or a certificate course in Music Therapy (preferred).
  • At least 3 years of experience working with children in a mainstream school or special school.
  • A teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred).
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education.
  • The ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing.
  • Familiarity with light songs and bhajans in Tamil.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Patient, creative, and positive attitude.
