Financial Support Specialist Job Description

The role of a Financial Support Specialist will be pivotal in supporting operational project teams financially throughout the life cycle of a project. This entails:

  • Providing financial support to project teams in all areas associated with running a clinical trial.
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly invoicing worksheets, which serve as source documents for client invoicing and revenue recognition.
  • Performing variance analysis to compare forecasted revenue to actual revenue, identifying gaps and changes in scope.
  • Reviewing work orders and change order budgets to help identify out-of-scope activities.
  • Supporting monthly project review meetings as needed.
  • Collaborating with the Manager, Operational Finance, and Vice President, Operational Finance in preparing contract documents (statements of work and change orders).
  • Working with the Accountant to provide support for financial reporting and general ledger functions.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
  • Reporting all monthly financial information in a timely manner.

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate should possess:

  • A degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience in an accounting discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in general ledger and financial reporting, including knowledge of the accounting cycle, project budgets, financial project management support, Earned Value Analysis, and contract review.
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in the local language of the country where the position is based.

The Financial Support Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with finance colleagues to achieve overall department goals and objectives.
  • Responding to inquiries from senior finance leaders regarding financial results, special reporting requests, and ad-hoc analyses relating to projects.
