Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Spearhead database infrastructure optimization to guarantee reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Collaborate closely with application teams to deliver seamless integration solutions with our database systems.
  • Analyze and implement best practices for supported datastores (primarily MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Establish and enforce stringent standards for database security, backup, and recovery.
  • Monitor and optimize relevant database metrics to ensure achievement of database objectives.
  • Provide expert guidance on database-related matters to engineering teams through reviews of database migrations, queries, and performance optimizations.
  • Work in tandem with peers (DevOps, Application Engineers) to roll out changes to our production environment and mitigate database-related production incidents.
  • Automate database infrastructure processes and provide self-service tools to facilitate engineering success.
  • Participate in on-call support rotations with the team.
  • Resolve and document database production issues across services and levels of the stack.
  • Perform regular system monitoring, troubleshooting, and capacity planning to ensure scalability.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 4-8 years of experience managing MySQL/PostgreSQL databases in large environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
  • Deep knowledge of the internals of MySQL/PostgreSQL.
  • Awareness of load balancing solutions such as ProxySQL to distribute database traffic efficiently across multiple servers.
  • Familiarity with tools and methods for monitoring database performance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Familiarity with caching (Redis/ElastiCache)
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python)
  • Understanding of infrastructure automation (Terraform/Ansible)
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
