Aquis Search assists its client, a leading real estate player in Mumbai, in sourcing an accomplished Head of Legal. This is a senior position requiring extensive experience in transactional and regulatory matters, particularly concerning land acquisition and development in Maharashtra.

About the Role:

  • The successful candidate will oversee end-to-end real estate transactions with a focus on land acquisition and title due diligence.
  • This role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating conveyancing and commercial agreements such as Agreements for Sale, Conveyance Deeds, Joint Development Agreements, Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), and lease/sale documentation for institutional clients.
  • The ideal candidate will provide strategic legal input on real estate regulatory frameworks including the Real Estate Regulation Act (RERA), Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, and other relevant land laws.
  • Liaising with government departments for registration and vetting of documents, and coordinating with financial institutions for mortgage creation, discharges, and security documentation are also essential responsibilities.
  • This attorney will offer legal advice on customer agreements, marketing content, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
  • Staying current with developments in the real estate regulatory environment and contributing proactively to compliance and governance matters are key aspects of this position.

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate should be a qualified lawyer with at least 20 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in the real estate sector.
  • A proven track record of working closely with business leadership, preferably in a developer or real estate-intensive environment, is highly valued.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills are essential.
  • Familiarity with Marathi (spoken and written) is an added advantage.
  • Prior team management experience and handling of litigation/regulatory matters will be highly regarded.
