Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer

This critical infrastructure engineering role focuses on developing and implementing robust mainframe systems programming to drive business success.
As a seasoned professional, you will be responsible for planning, designing, installing, configuring, and supporting highly resilient and stable mainframe infrastructure. This involves leveraging automated scripting where feasible to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Job Responsibilities:- Apply technical expertise to assignments with a defined scope, including testing the performance of the infrastructure and verifying that requirements were successfully met.
- Demonstrate strong mainframe systems programming skills, encompassing a deep understanding of z/OS concepts, JCL, JES, SDSF, VSAM, catalog management, SMP/E, USS, Parallel Sysplex, IBM system utilities, and relevant software artifacts.
- Possess a strong drive to create innovative solutions for complex challenges using automation tools, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Have a passion for technology and a willingness to embrace new ideas for managing mainframe infrastructure software, ensuring adaptability in a rapidly evolving landscape.
- Drive results by collecting and analyzing monitoring data in test and production environments, seeing assignments through to completion.
- Carry out day-to-day work assignments with some guidance and within documented parameters, escalating issues to appropriate leaders as needed.
- Develop considerations for upstream/downstream data and systems or technical implications, ensuring seamless integration across the organization.
- Formal training or certification in infrastructure disciplines, coupled with 2+ years of applied experience.
- Strong mainframe systems programming skills, including a deep understanding of z/OS concepts, JCL, JES, SDSF, VSAM, catalog management, SMP/E, USS, Parallel Sysplex, IBM system utilities, and relevant software artifacts.
- Proficiency with RESTful APIs, zOWE, and zOAU is essential for successful implementation.
- Understanding or experience with agile and lean philosophies to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages, such as REXX, Unix Scripting, zOSMF Workflows, Python, etc.
- Familiarity with experience with RESTful APIs, zOWE, zOAU, etc., to leverage existing knowledge and skills.
- Proficient knowledge of hardware, networking terminology, databases, storage engineering, deployment practices, integration, automation, scaling, resilience, and performance assessments to drive informed decision-making.
