Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer

CtrlS Datacenters Ltd is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our team. As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical systems for our data centers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop electrical systems for data centers, including power distribution, electrical distribution, and electrical infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, construction professionals, and other engineers to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Review and analyze data center client requirements and provide technical clarifications and solutions.
  • Prepare concept designs, load sheets, SLDs, sizing calculations, and power system analyses using ETAP.
  • Perform feasibility studies to identify new data centers that meet business requirements.
  • Handle concurrent MEP projects in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work on load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analyses, as well as relay settings on ETAP for all projects.
  • Detailed designing of electrical systems, including review of TDS submittals from vendors, coordinated service drawings, external services drawings, and floor-level service drawings.
  • Prepare detailed documents, including DBRs, specifications, SOOs, system study documents, sizing documents, CEIG submission documents, and DBRs for earthing and lighting protection.
  • Capacity planning for hyper-scale data centers.
  • Review offers and provide clarifications and technical ratings for electrical equipment.
  • Travel to sites to resolve coordination and client meetings.
  • Design project scope and deliverable lists for successful project delivery.
  • Work with local agencies for CEIG/state and municipal requirements and building codes.
  • Familiarity with data center MEPF infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of local design codes for safety and security, electrical system design.
  • Working knowledge of building energy management systems.
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and provide preventive reports to build on the process.
  • Review and understand project documents and validation of technical specifications.
  • Ensure best installation practices to the field team, ensuring installation standards and quality are maintained and improved.
  • Develop and oversee all aspects of electrical system installation.
  • Ensure project expectations are effectively communicated to customers and project stakeholders in a clear and concise fashion.
  • Willingness to learn, accept opportunities for creative design with strong theoretical knowledge for commercial and industrial projects.
  • Quick decision-making capability to overcome site incidents with minimal downtime.
  • Good technical and interpersonal skills, good judgment, clear communication skills, self-driven, and ability to help others.
Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with 10+ years of relevant electrical experience.

7+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design.

9+ years of experience developing design documentation (plans, specifications, etc.) for construction.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related engineering degrees as well as five (5) years of related experience in professional environments.

Detailed knowledge of critical data center electrical equipment (including UPS, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, and automatic/static transfer switches) and basic understanding of mechanical equipment and system design.

Proficiency in computer applications such as ETAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.

Knowledge of building codes and regulations, including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.

Proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit.

Experience of fast-track projects/retrofit projects.

Strong understanding of new designs and technologies for data center equipment and facilities.

A strong ability to understand complex requirements of data center customers and clearly communicate/articulate in line with energy efficiency and sustainability goals.
