About the Role

This is an exceptional chance for a seasoned professional in climate science to drive forward-thinking strategies and contribute to sustainable development goals. As a Climate Adaptation Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive adaptation plans that ensure resilience to climate change impacts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Integrate adaptation priorities into national frameworks: Collaborate with governments and stakeholders to align Paris Agreement objectives with national development goals.
  • Conduct climate vulnerability assessments: Apply expertise in CVRAs to identify sectors vulnerable to climate change and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Inform strategic planning with climate models: Leverage risk analytics and climate models to guide decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Evaluate and prioritize adaptation measures: Develop cost-effective solutions with clear outcomes, timelines, and implementation plans.
  • Mobilize resources for adaptation: Identify financing opportunities and support proposal development for climate adaptation projects.
  • Foster stakeholder engagement: Facilitate inclusive consultations with government agencies, civil society, and vulnerable groups.
  • Align adaptation strategies with SDGs: Ensure climate action contributes to sustainable development goals and national development plans.
  • Design MRV systems: Contribute to the development of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification systems aligned with ETF requirements.
  • Communicate complex information: Draft reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Provide policy guidance: Offer expert advice to strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration.
Required Qualifications
  • Advanced degree: Hold a master's or Ph.D. in climate science, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience: 5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields.
  • National development contributions: Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating NDCs, LT-LEDS, or NAPs, particularly in developing country contexts.
  • CVRAs and strategy development: Proficiency in conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies.
  • Climate modeling and analysis: Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections.
  • Techno-commercial analysis: Strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways.
  • Climate finance mechanisms: Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms such as GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs.
  • Effective communication: Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills.
Preferred Attributes
  • National government experience: Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development.
  • Consulting background: Background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles.
  • Ecosystem-based approaches: Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches.
  • Gender and social inclusion: Ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning.
