Senior Structural Design Specialist

Job Summary:

As a Senior Engineer, you will undertake assessments of existing bridges and prepare assessment reports with expertise in Steel Composite and Pretension/Posttension structures.

You will carry out feasibility studies for strengthening and repair, and prepare new bridge design and strengthening design to UK standards, ensuring compliance with appropriate design and health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Designing and assessing bridges (Cat II or Cat III) under the guidance of a Senior or Principal Engineer.
  • Preparing or assisting others in compiling drawings, specifications, reports, and correspondence within given deadlines.
  • Ensuring the correct implementation of document control and QA processes for issue and filing/archiving of all work carried out.

Other key tasks include:

  • Producing work to specified WSP design standards and suggesting revisions as necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with AIP or other project requirements.
  • Using WSP calculation templates and ensuring calculation sheets comply with WSP standards.
  • Continually striving to develop and increase skills in MIDAS, LUSAS, Superstress, SAM, ARCHIE, and other computer-aided design software.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive team worker and self-motivated learner, able to adapt to the requirements of the job/role.

Requirements

• Proven experience in designing and assessing bridges (Cat II or Cat III)

• Excellent knowledge of Steel Composite and Pretension/Posttension structures

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
