Job Summary:

The Director of Innovation and Commercialization leads the institution's incubation center, driving initiatives to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. This role involves developing and managing programs that support startups and emerging ventures, collaborating with corporate partners, and providing mentorship to students and entrepreneurs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Incubation Center Management:
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the incubation center, including the management of resources, facilities, and staff.
    • Develop and implement strategic plans for the incubation center to achieve its goals and enhance its impact on innovation and entrepreneurship.
    • Monitor and evaluate the performance of incubated ventures, providing support and guidance as needed.
  2. Innovation Program Development:
    • Design and implement programs and initiatives that support innovation and entrepreneurship, including workshops, mentorship programs, and networking events.
    • Create and manage accelerator programs, pitch competitions, and other activities that encourage entrepreneurial activity and idea development.
    • Develop and maintain a pipeline of innovative projects and startups within the incubation center.
  3. Industry and Corporate Partnerships:
    • Establish and cultivate relationships with corporate partners, industry leaders, and investors to provide resources, mentorship, and funding opportunities for incubated ventures.
    • Collaborate with external organizations to facilitate partnerships that enhance the center's offerings and increase its visibility.
    • Secure sponsorships, grants, and other funding sources to support the incubation center and its programs.
  4. Mentorship and Support:
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to students, entrepreneurs, and startups, helping them navigate the challenges of starting and growing a business.
    • Facilitate access to expertise, resources, and networks that can aid in the development and commercialization of new ideas.
    • Organize and lead training sessions, seminars, and workshops on topics related to innovation, entrepreneurship, and business development.
  5. Strategic Planning and Development:
    • Develop and execute strategic plans to enhance the incubation center's role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the institution and the broader community.
    • Assess trends and opportunities in the innovation landscape to inform program development and strategic initiatives.
    • Report on the center's performance, achievements, and impact to internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Community and Ecosystem Building:
    • Foster a culture of innovation within the institution and the local community by organizing events, networking opportunities, and collaborative projects.
    • Engage with alumni, local entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders to build a supportive innovation ecosystem.
    • Promote the successes of incubated ventures and highlight the impact of the incubation center's activities.

Requirements:

  • Masters degree or higher in Business Administration, Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in managing incubation centers, accelerators, or similar innovation-focused programs.
  • Strong background in entrepreneurship, business development, or startup mentoring.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and networking skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with corporate partners, investors, and industry leaders.
  • Experience in securing funding and managing budgets for innovation programs.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a leadership or senior management role within an innovation or entrepreneurial ecosystem.
  • Knowledge of startup ecosystems, venture capital, and commercialization strategies.
  • Familiarity with legal and regulatory considerations related to startups and innovation.
