About a Nursery Professional

This role involves the propagation, cultivation, and maintenance of plants in a nursery setting. You will ensure optimal growing conditions, monitor plant health, and perform tasks related to planting, watering, pruning, and pest control.

Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work with plants and contribute to the success of a team. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of horticulture, be able to work independently, and possess excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plant Propagation and Cultivation:
    • Propagate plants through seeds, cuttings, grafting, and other methods. Prepare soil mixtures according to permaculture principles.
    • Monitor and adjust environmental conditions to optimize plant growth.
  • Plant Care and Maintenance:
    • Water plants according to their specific needs, prune and trim plants for proper growth and shape.
    • Assist in promoting healthy plant growth and preventing disease using fertilizers or pesticides.
    • Regularly inspect plants for pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies. Implement integrated pest management practices.
    • Record and report any issues promptly.
  • Nursery Operations:
    • Organize the nursery for efficient layout and cleanliness.
    • Maintain equipment in good working order and report malfunctions.
    • Assist in maintaining nursery infrastructure, such as greenhouses and irrigation systems.
    • Track plant inventory and maintain accurate records.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Assist in tracking plant inventory and maintaining accurate records.
    • Prepare plants for sale or distribution, including labelling and packaging.
Qualifications and Skills
  1. Bachelor's or Diploma holder in horticulture, agriculture, botany, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience in handling nursery plants.
  3. Understanding of plant biology, propagation techniques, pest management, and nursery operations.
  4. Ability to organize resources to achieve desired results and anticipate safety hazards.
  5. Good communication skills and ability to work independently or in a group setting.
