Job Title: Tax Compliance Specialist

At Clearhouse, we are seeking a skilled Tax Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our tax department, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with tax regulations and laws.

About the Role:

The Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for preparing personal, corporate, and trust income tax returns along with other tax elections. You will also apply provisions of US tax treaties to cross-border tax transactions and assist with sales tax filings and registrations.

Your Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare assigned sections of working papers to support income tax return filings.
- Assist with government tax audits, including analytical support, information collection, response preparation, and direct interaction with clients and the IRS.
- Collaborate closely with partners and senior staff to develop and implement effective strategies and client tax planning assignments.
- Establish relationships with clients and gain a solid understanding of their business.
- Develop and apply process management expertise (planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling).
- Manage projects during tax season.

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in preparing or reviewing 1040 personal income tax returns and 1120 corporate income tax returns.
- Public accounting experience (preferably in tax).
- The ability to communicate effectively with clients for their tax matters.
- A bachelor's degree - preferably in accounting.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's of Commerce.
- Experience working with accounting and tax software is considered an asset (ie, Proystems, FX, Gosystems, Drake Tax).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team.
- Motivated to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Takes initiative and is a proactive problem solver.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
- Takes responsibility for self-improvement and is committed to professional growth and development.
- Demonstrates ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing tasks and deliverables.
