Database Specialist

This role is crucial for ensuring the stability and performance of Microsoft SQL Server databases within an Application Management Services environment. You will work with relevant technologies to ensure smooth operations, contributing significantly to business objectives through expert analysis, development, implementation, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Database Administration: Perform routine database administration tasks for Microsoft SQL Server, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and managing database instances.
• Performance Monitoring & Tuning: Continuously monitor SQL Server database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies such as query tuning, index optimization, and instance-level tuning.
• Backup and Recovery: Design, implement, and manage robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions for SQL Server databases to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
• High Availability: Implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions like AlwaysOn Availability Groups, SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances, and replication.
• Database Security: Implement and enforce database security policies, manage user access, roles, and permissions, and ensure compliance with security standards.
• Incident & Problem Management: Respond to database-related incidents, troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes in an AMS framework.
• Change Management: Adhere to ITIL-based change management processes for all database modifications and deployments.
• SQL Development Support: Provide support to application development teams for database-related issues, including query optimization, schema changes, and data fixes.
• Automation: Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL) for automating routine DBA tasks, database maintenance, and reporting.
• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Microsoft SQL Server Expertise: Strong hands-on experience in administering, configuring, and troubleshooting Microsoft SQL Server databases across various versions.
• T-SQL Proficiency: Excellent proficiency in T-SQL for querying, scripting, and stored procedure development.
• High Availability: Proven experience with SQL Server high availability features such as AlwaysOn Availability Groups, clustering, and replication.
• Performance Tuning: Strong ability to diagnose and resolve database performance issues.
• Database Security: Good understanding of database security best practices and compliance requirements.
• AMS / ITIL: Familiarity with Application Management Services (AMS) models and ITIL processes for incident, problem, and change management.
• Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to complex database challenges.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field. Microsoft SQL Server certifications are a significant plus.
