Senior Backend Software Engineer

We are building a cutting-edge personal finance application for Generation Z. Our mission is to transform bank transactions into actionable insights and goals that users can actually pursue.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs from OpenAPI specifications: authentication, Plaid link/exchange, webhooks (fast and reliable), transactions list/patch, insights refresh/list.
  • Develop SQS workers: ingestion — Plaid cursor synchronization, idempotent upserts to Postgres, raw payloads to S3; insights — Gemini API calls with quotas, timeouts, circuit breakers; persist JSON results.
  • Implement efficient Postgres schemas/migrations; design and optimize queries, cursor pagination, and Redis caching for high-performance reads.
  • Enforce input validation (AJV/Zod), structured logging (pino), and distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry).
  • Add comprehensive tests (unit/integration), documentation (Postman/OpenAPI examples), and runbooks (queue replay, webhook replay).
  • Collaborate closely with the Platform/Infrastructure engineer to ensure security, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
Requirements:
  • Mandatory skills:
  • 5+ years of experience building Node.js/TypeScript backends with Postgres and a message queue (SQS/Rabbit/etc.).
  • Proven expertise in secure webhooks (signature/HMAC verification) and third-party APIs.
  • Strong grasp of idempotency, retries/backoff, cursor pagination, error design, and API performance.
  • Comfortable with Docker, GitHub Actions, and observability fundamentals (logs/metrics/traces).
  • Nice to have:
  • Experience with the Plaid SDK; LLM API usage (Gemini/OpenAI); SMS flows (SNS/Twilio).
  • Exposure to Java/Spring or Go (we may introduce JVM/Go for specific future services).
