Power Design Engineer Job Description

The Power Design Engineer will lead the development of power design architecture and topology for server and storage products, working closely with System Architects and System Engineers.

  1. Simulation, design and test of DC-DC regulator circuits: Develop and implement efficient and reliable DC-DC regulator circuits using simulation tools and design software.
  2. Lead the overall power design architecture and topology: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement the overall power design architecture and topology for server and storage products.
  3. Drive the DC-DC vendor and technology roadmap: Identify and recommend new technologies and vendors for DC-DC power supplies, ensuring optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
  4. Lead the selection of off-the-shelf AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies: Evaluate and select off-the-shelf power supplies that meet product requirements, ensuring compatibility and reliability.
  5. Enable state-of-the-art electrical designs: Use technical knowledge and leadership skills to drive the development of innovative and high-performance electrical designs.
  6. Drive system modeling and design process improvements: Create detailed system models to ensure 'right-first-time' designs and drive continuous improvement in design processes.
  7. Mentor younger engineers and technicians: Share knowledge and expertise with junior team members, promoting professional growth and development.
  8. Create intellectual property: Develop proprietary technologies and innovations that differentiate our products and services.
  9. Drive fabrication partners to best-in-class performance: Collaborate with external partners to optimize their manufacturing capabilities and processes.
  10. Develop product design requirements and documentation: Work with cross-functional teams to create comprehensive product design requirements and documentation.
Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in power electronics design and development.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics, including DC-DC converter design and analysis.
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g. SPICE) and design software (e.g. OrCAD).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple projects.
