Job Summary

As a Civil Underground Engineer at Black & Veatch, you will play a key role in applying advanced engineering techniques and analyses to solve complex problems. With minimal supervision, you will expand your knowledge and skill set in your area of discipline, and may also start to expand your knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply independent knowledge and interpretation of departmental design guides, standards, systems, and applicable engineering codes and Black and Veatch policies and procedures relative to assigned tasks.
  • Consistently and independently apply knowledge and comply with Black and Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks.
  • Provide guidance and direction to others from the same project and discipline.
  • Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
Engineering Production
  • Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables.
  • Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Plan and conduct independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Review lower-level engineering work or assignments.
  • Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work, lead smaller production teams, or serve as the responsible charge for a project.
Project Coordination
  • Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects.
Client Focus
  • Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects.
  • Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on less complex projects.
  • Provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
Knowledge Sharing, Innovation, and Technology
  • Be recognized as a technical specialist by the division, having in-depth knowledge of an engineering process and/or of technical aspects of an industry.
  • Design a complete project of moderately complex scope within an assigned practice area(s).
People Management
  • Assist with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required.
