Chief Academic Officer

The Chief Academic Officer is the lead executive responsible for setting a vision and direction for academic excellence, innovation, and strategic growth within a medical university.

This role demands strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills to drive change, build consensus, and inspire stakeholders towards achieving common goals.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of academia, research, and institutional governance, with a proven track record of developing and implementing strategies that promote student success, faculty development, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Academic Leadership:
    • Provide strategic direction and oversight to academic programs, ensuring alignment with industry trends, learning outcomes, and accreditation standards.
    • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and frameworks to support curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment.
  • Research and Innovation Development:
    • Foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship by supporting faculty and students in scholarly activities, publishing, and securing funding opportunities.
    • Establish partnerships with industry, government, and other stakeholders to drive research collaborations, knowledge exchange, and economic growth.
  • Institutional Governance and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, maintaining a culture of transparency, accountability, and integrity.
    • Oversee the functioning of various committees and boards, promoting good governance, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making processes.
  • Student Success and Wellbeing:
    • Champion student welfare, mentoring, career readiness, and holistic development, creating a safe, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating campus environment.
    • Develop and implement initiatives that promote student success, retention, and progression, aligning with national and international benchmarks.
  • External Engagement and Partnerships:
    • Represent the university at national and international platforms, building visibility, reputation, and partnerships that support academic excellence and economic growth.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with industry, government, and other stakeholders to promote collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mutual benefit.
