Job Title: Head of Legal

As a key member of the Ameriprise India team, the Head of Legal will play a critical role in providing strategic legal advice and counsel to support the growth and success of our business in India.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide employment law advice and counsel to operations in India, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify and mitigate employment law risks, and develop strategies to address them.
  • Support Employee Relations in investigating employee complaints and workplace issues, and provide training on employment law compliance.
  • Advise on compliance with the PoSH Act and other applicable employment laws, and monitor changes in employment laws affecting our operations in India.
  • Manage employment litigation and other adversarial proceedings in India, including leading relationships with external counsel.
Administrative Leadership/Oversight:
  • Provide administrative leadership support to the GCO legal and compliance functions at Ameriprise India, partnering with functional leaders to ensure an engaged team of professionals.
  • Partner with GCO leaders to evolve the global resourcing strategy for these functions, and oversee SLA management to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Build a strong culture of compliance, aligned with company policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • LLB or LLM degree from a reputable institution with excellent academic credentials.
  • 15+ years of experience providing employment law advice, with experience in advising multinational corporations.
  • Experience in working in a matrixed environment, overseeing teams with dual reporting relationships.
  • Ability to build internal relationships and operate effectively with large multi-stakeholder cross-functional partners at all levels in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding client-service focus and technical mastery to convey complex legal principles clearly and concisely.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to manage confidential, sensitive information.
  • Resilient, results-oriented, and collaborative.
  • Unquestioned integrity and professionalism.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
