Senior Database Administrator

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Database Administrator to lead our database infrastructure team.

Job Description:

  • Ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of our database systems.
  • Collaborate with application teams to deliver solutions that integrate seamlessly with our databases.
  • Analyze database systems and implement best practices for supported datastores (primarily MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Develop and enforce best practices for database security, backup, and recovery.
  • Work on database observability and ensure we meet our database objectives.
  • Provide database expertise to engineering teams through reviews of database migrations, queries, and performance optimizations.
  • Collaborate with peers to roll out changes to our production environment and help mitigate database-related incidents.
  • Automate database infrastructure and provide self-service tools to support engineering teams.
  • Participate in on-call support rotations with the team.
  • Support and debug database production issues across services and levels of the stack.
  • Document actions to create repeatable processes and automation.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and plan database capacity to ensure scalability.
  • Maintain documentation on database configurations, processes, and procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 4-8 years of experience running MySQL/PostgreSQL databases in large environments.
  • Awareness of cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
  • Knowledge of database internals (MySQL/PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with load balancing solutions (ProxySQL) to distribute traffic efficiently across multiple servers.
  • Knowledge of tools and methods for monitoring database performance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Knowledge of caching (Redis/Elasticache).
  • Scripting language skills (Python).
  • Infrastructure automation experience (Terraform/Ansible).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
