Job Description:

The AVP Legal role is a key member of the Legal leadership team, reporting directly to the Group Chief Legal Officer (GCLO). As a seasoned legal professional, you will work closely with senior management, providing strategic legal advice and guidance on various aspects of company operations.

This includes managing outside counsel relationships, leading internal teams, and overseeing the legal aspects of business deals. You will be responsible for drafting contracts, negotiations, and finalization of agreements with third-party vendors and suppliers.

Additionally, you will support the Corporate Finance team in SPV governance, defend against indemnity claims, and litigate strategic matters as advised by the GCLO or management.

You will also play a crucial role in business acquisition, supporting the Business Acquisition team in participating in competitive bids, reviewing bid documents, and issuing risk analyses.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape company policies, review proposed standard bidding documents, and communicate with authorities on behalf of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strategic legal advice to senior management
  2. Manage outside counsel relationships and lead internal teams
  3. Oversee the legal aspects of business deals and transactions
  4. Draft contracts and negotiate agreements
  5. Support the Corporate Finance team in SPV governance
  6. Defend against indemnity claims and litigate strategic matters
  7. Support the Business Acquisition team in participating in competitive bids
  8. Review bid documents and issue risk analyses
  9. Shape company policies and procedures
Required Skills and Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, you must possess a strong commercial understanding of power and energy business, government tenders, and projects. A law graduate from a reputable law school, with at least 15 years of experience in multinational companies, preferably in the power/infrastructure/energy sectors, is required.

A mix of in-house and law firm experience would be highly desirable. You must be a team player with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
