GIS Developer Position Overview

This role is for a skilled GIS developer who can design, develop, and maintain custom GIS applications and web-based mapping solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and optimize geospatial workflows and tools based on user requirements.
  • Integrate GIS applications with various enterprise systems and APIs to create seamless data integration.
  • Write scripts and tools for data automation, analysis, and processing using Python/ArcPy to enhance productivity.
  • Perform spatial data modeling, geoprocessing, and complex spatial analysis to drive business insights.
  • Maintain and optimize spatial databases, including PostGIS and SQL Server with spatial extensions to ensure efficient data storage.
  • Create interactive maps, dashboards, and visualizations using ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or Mapbox to communicate complex information effectively.
  • Conduct performance tuning, testing, and documentation of GIS solutions to ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Provide expert support and troubleshooting for GIS-related issues and enhancements to meet customer needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in GIS development with a strong focus on application development.
  • Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Suite, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Online, as well as experience migrating Geocortex Essentials and custom HTML 5 web applications into ESRI's JavaScript API version 4.
  • Hands-on experience with VertiGIS Studio Suite and ESRI Experience Builder to leverage their full potential.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript (Leaflet/ArcGIS API for JS), or .NET for GIS applications, with a focus on spatial data manipulation and analysis.
  • Experience with spatial databases: PostGIS, SQL Server, Oracle Spatial, to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Knowledge of web development frameworks and APIs (REST/SOAP) to facilitate seamless data integration.
  • Experience integrating GIS with other enterprise systems (ERP, CRM) to create a unified view of business operations.
  • Familiarity with open-source GIS platforms (QGIS, GeoServer, MapServer) is a plus, demonstrating adaptability and a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail to deliver high-quality results.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills to effectively convey complex information to stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications in GIS (e.g., Esri Technical Certification) to demonstrate expertise and commitment to the field.
  • Experience working with cloud GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise on AWS/Azure) to leverage scalability and flexibility.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies to foster collaboration and efficiency in team environments.
