Software Development Engineer

As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in developing data-rich and reliable user experiences. Our frontends are constructed using JS, CSS, React, and Flutter, serving as the company's face to users.

To create consistency across products and sites, we have a central team that builds an open-source React toolkit and presentation layer, the Vanilla Framework. We are excited to develop this further and see if we can help more open-source projects build performant and accessible interfaces that respond well to diverse layouts.

We use REST APIs for communication, and consider API design an important part of the process. Additionally, we encourage colleagues to engage with the broader open-source community.

This is a globally remote role, entailing various responsibilities including designing and implementing well-tested and documented software, debugging and fixing issues encountered by users, participating in code and architectural reviews, collaborating with community and colleagues on technical specifications, contributing to technical documentation, and seeking improvements to engineering and operations practices.

We are looking for individuals with exceptional academic track records, undergraduate degrees in Computer Science or STEM, or compelling narratives about alternative paths. Drive and a track record of exceeding expectations are essential, along with well-organised, self-starting, and able-to-deliver-on-schedule qualities.

Professional manner when interacting with colleagues, partners, and community members is expected, as is experience designing and writing high-quality Web technologies, Typescript, React, or Flutter, and an eye for accessibility and performance.

Professional written and spoken English, experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred), excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, accountability, passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation are also required.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with container tech such as LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Attention to detail concerning user-centric UI development
• REST API design, development, and governance
• Performance engineering and security experience
