Powertrain Engineer Job Description

This role is responsible for ensuring the validated release and sign-off of dedicated vehicle components and sub-systems. The successful candidate will be involved in executing various activities to meet project timelines.

  • Packaging High Voltage Cables, busbars, and their layout along with plastic carriers required for HV & LV Battery pack is a key responsibility.
  • Update harness routing and busbar based on repackaging of interface components with coordination to system integration engineering team.
  • Understanding Energy Storage system (Battery) sizing for Targeted vehicle performance is essential.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers to implement design changes during program development, prototype, and production build phases according to project timeline.
  • Carry out stack-up analysis on designed components.
  • Develop harness/busbar/cell packaging, list out issues, and drive resolution prior to validation builds.
  • Create test cases, design rules, or requirements as required.
  • Benchmarking & concept development.
  • Work on QAF, RFQ, and support plans along with suppliers/buyers & VFM teams.
  • Manage DFMEA, PFMEA, BOD, BOP.
  • Comply with grade/EMC/safety compliance.
  • Design and develop interface plastics/sheet metal components required in battery enclosures.
  • Support part development in-house or at supplier ends.
  • Support part testing at supplier or in-house as per DV or PV.
  • Participate in supplier PPAP activities and periodic audits of suppliers to improve quality and process improvements.
  • Build supply plans for M1/VB & production cars (saleable vehicles).
  • Provide engineering solutions for build issues and containing fixing issues on current production vehicles.
  • Support creating circuit schematics and validate circuits for full architectures of vehicles.
  • Release 3D harness assembly models in PLM.
  • Experience various change management processes like engineering change requests.
  • Select harness coverings based on 3D model routing and packaging & surrounding geometry.
  • Develop harness packaging issues lists and drive resolutions prior to validation builds.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Prior experience on HV battery packs, cells, and modules.
