Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Overview:

The primary focus of this role is to provide expert level testing and quality assurance for software solutions. This involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that all testing requirements are met within the Agile development framework.

Key responsibilities include developing and executing test plans, creating and maintaining test cases, and identifying areas for process improvement. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and experience working with modern testing tools and technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and document application test strategies and test plans
  • Collaborate with DevOps team to implement automated testing and regression tests
  • Work with project managers and other engineers to define project testing methodologies
  • Develop and execute manual and automated testing scripts
  • Identify, log, and track defects in a defect tracking system
  • Conduct exploratory testing and TDD during development
  • Prioritize testing tasks, scenarios, and test cases
  • Provide regular reporting and insights to management on testing activities

Qualifications:

5+ years of SDET experience in complex web-based software development environments

3+ years of performance and API testing experience using tools like LoadRunner, WebLOAD, or Apache JMeter

Experience with CodeceptJS testing framework or equivalent Javascript based testing frameworks

Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, Sciences, or Mathematics

Experience with Quality Assurance in an Agile environment

Experience with Ruby and Javascript test libraries (RSpec, MiniTest, Jest) is an asset

Hands-on working experience with commercial databases (MySQL, PGSQL, AWS Aurora)

Previous experience with containerized environments (Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes) is desired

Experience with Datadog or similar monitoring and analytics tool is a nice to have

Strong understanding of software development life cycles and Testing Principles
