Data Governance and Security Specialist Job Description

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of data governance and security principles, with expertise in synthesizing complex information to communicate effectively with stakeholders.

  • Support the collection of up-to-date information from business units regarding their most valuable data and its use on a yearly basis at a Data Element level when possible.
  • Monitor the use of Data elements through security tools like DLP and Microsoft Purview, identifying potential risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create Sensitive Information Types, ensuring accurate identification of sensitive data elements used by the business.
  • Develop and implement effective controls and monitoring processes for sensitive data elements located across the organization (email, SharePoint, OneDrive).
  • Maintain the Data Classification register for unstructured data, ensuring a consistent record of the most valuable data, including ownership, classification, and location in various tools (Varonis, Purview, SharePoint).
  • Serve as an information security champion, providing guidance on risk management and policy adherence to areas of the business, while maintaining close working relationships with relevant teams.
  • Analyze and centralize information from various sources (SOC Incidents, vulnerability scans, phishing results) to identify data-related risks and supporting assets within the organization.
  • Communicate weekly on top-identified risks currently being monitored, ensuring timely action is taken to mitigate potential threats.
  • Ensure up-to-date information security risk metrics are prepared for distribution as required, fostering transparency and informed decision-making.
  • Produce regular reporting to local IT, Security, Risk governance, and business stakeholders on non-compliance around data element use and locations, highlighting areas for improvement.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Risk Management and/or Information Security.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information in a clear, concise manner, suitable for C-Level leaders.
  • Experience in articulating risks in business language and advising on risk management actions, driving informed decision-making.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to create engaging presentations that break down complex problems.
  • Proficiency in Information Security frameworks (Mitre ATT&CK, FAIR, NIST, ISO 2700X), with a deep understanding of industry best practices.
  • Fluency in English, with excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, capable of building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint), with experience in multinational companies.
