About the Position

Fluence is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Battery Energy Storage (BESS) team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative thermal management solutions for our battery systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop thermal management systems for BESS enclosures, including cooling systems, plumbing, and HVAC components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product development, and procurement, to ensure seamless integration of thermal management systems.
  • Develop and maintain detailed design specifications, including calculations and simulations, to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Interface with suppliers and manufacturers to validate design requirements and test specifications.
  • Lead and manage component interfaces with other engineering cross-functions.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and manage non-conformity reports and supplier deviation requests.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with 5+ years of experience in thermal management design of electronic enclosures or battery systems.
  • OR Master's degree with specialization in engineering mechanics, thermal and fluid sciences, or equivalent, and 3+ years of experience in BESS enclosure design and engineering.
  • Strong technical knowledge in 1D analytical calculation with emphasis on cooling system design using engineering fundamentals and cutting-edge tools such as ANSYS and MATLAB.
  • Experience with developing product from conceptual stage to mass production.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end design and development of new components, including hands-on experience with Creo, BOM, quality control, supplier qualification, and design reviews.
  • Ability to automate numerical simulation workflow using Ansys Workbench or custom post and preprocessing scripts.
  • Previous experience in executing CFD simulations in HPC environment, either on-prem or cloud-based solutions.
  • Strong skillset in thermal system design, including plumbing components, HVAC, chillers, fans, component and material selection, DFMEA, DFM, and DFA.
  • Knowledge and experience of mechanical design, hands-on with CAE tools, and understanding of battery operation fundamentals.
  • Strong proficiency in smart simple design, analytical calculations, and excellent communication skills.
