Mainframe Support Engineer Role

  • Seeking a skilled Mainframe Production Support professional with a strong background in mainframe technology.
  • Responsibilities include level 2/3 production support for mainframe-based applications and services, monitoring, triaging, and resolving incidents and issues in production environments to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Perform root cause analysis, coordinate with development teams for permanent fixes, and execute and validate data integrity through strong SQL queries (preferably in MS SQL).
  • Support automation initiatives and improve testing processes across the production lifecycle, participate in Agile ceremonies, and contribute to sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure software stability, performance, and quality.

Key Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in Mainframe Production Support, with a strong focus on database and automation testing.
  • Proven expertise in SQL (MS SQL preferred) for complex queries, data validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and ability to work in Agile teams.
  • Ability to drive software quality, optimize testing and support processes, handle critical production issues under pressure, and ensure timely resolutions.

Desirable Skills:

  • Exposure to job scheduling tools like Control-M or CA-7.
  • Experience in writing or supporting JCL, COBOL, or other mainframe scripting languages.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes for incident and change management.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Mainframe Application Support: Provide high-quality support to end-users, ensuring prompt resolution of technical issues.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Analyze complex problems to identify underlying causes, develop solutions, and implement improvements.
  • Agile Team Member: Participate in Scrum ceremonies, collaborate with developers, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and implement efficient testing processes, automate tasks where possible, and streamline workflows.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Mastery of mainframe technologies, including databases and operating systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, with knowledge of Scrum principles and practices.
