Windows Server Infrastructure Support Specialist

At Experian, we are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Infrastructure SRE to join our team. This role will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our Windows server environment, covering everything from deployment to retirement.

This position requires excellent technical skills, including experience with Windows, virtualization, and automation technologies such as Ansible or BladeLogic. A strong understanding of ITIL processes and Service Now ticket tracking software is also essential.

The ideal candidate will have 5 years of experience working in large Windows environments and possess advanced troubleshooting skills across complex systems. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work without direction, are necessary for success in this role.

About the Role:

  • Create automation playbooks to streamline server management tasks
  • Manage incident resolution to ensure problems are isolated and remediated efficiently
  • Support post-incident and problem processes to identify root causes and implement permanent resolutions
  • Proactively manage incidents and problems to ensure seamless server operation
  • Provide expert technical input and leadership during complex system issues
  • Mentor junior engineers to ensure they are performing at expected levels
  • Maintain the server environment to a known, consistent standard
  • Identify gaps in monitoring and ensure remediation accordingly
  • Develop and implement new support services, performance tuning recommendations, and changes in workload mix to meet user business requirements
  • Continually identify improvements to processes and procedures to reduce technical costs and enhance service delivery
  • Evaluate client queries and provide effective solutions to meet or exceed expectations
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of cross-platform infrastructure and relationships
  • Perform administrative and BAU work on behalf of technical and business teams
  • Remediate HPE hardware, software, and firmware issues, or make changes to systems management software, to improve performance and eliminate problems
  • Patching and vulnerability management of the server environment
  • Review, maintain, and test upgrades to vendor software used for server support
  • Adhere to ITIL standards and processes
  • Work outside normal hours and participate in out-of-hours on-call rotations

Technical Skills - Core:

  • Windows – All versions
  • Experience working in large shared environments (Server, Converged, Network, VMware)
  • VMware virtualization
  • VRealise Suite v*.x
  • Scripting and automation technology – At least one of Bash, Python, Perl, Ansible, PowerShell, VBScript
  • HPE Server Hardware (ProLiant range, Synergy/OneView)

Technical Skills – Desirable:

  • Rapid 7 vulnerability management toolset
  • McAfee security products
  • SAN Storage and Switches (HDS, Brocade)
  • Cloud Technologies (AWS, Azure, Oracle, Google)
  • Monitoring tools such as Dynatrace

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of Agile
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and experience with ticket tracking software, specifically Service Now
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across complex environments
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with internal/external customers, vendors, management, etc. in both formal and informal situations

Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications

Location: Flexible remote work options available, with occasional on-site presence required
