Job Title: Operations Specialist

Job Description:

  • Manage all legal matters related to claims, including recovery actions for outstanding freight, detention, and demurrage, abandoned and longstanding containers, and costs and expenses incurred by the company and recoverable from third parties.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Confirm receipt of claims within 24 hours of claim/notification receipt.
  • Collect relevant documents and report all claims to headquarters within 24 hours. Advise on the merits of the claim and future steps.
  • Monitor and assist headquarters claims as well as other colleagues in handling claims and court cases until closure.
  • Monitor and handle all P&I related matters such as cargo claims, GA & stowage etc.
  • Monitor and handle all third-party damages to company containers and cargo, including specifically stevedore damages and ensure prompt reserves are taken against such third parties.
  • Handle recovery actions such as outstanding freight, detention, and demurrage, abandoned and longstanding containers, more generally all costs and expenses incurred by the company and recoverable from third parties.
  • Assist with Debt Recoveries according to NCLT tribunal rules. Draft and review various Service Agreements and draft various MOU, Letters of Intent, agreements etc. pertaining to the business.
  • Ensure all procedures implemented by the Head Office Legal Department are duly implemented and followed within the network.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to branch offices within the region on handling issues that may translate to a legal matter.
  • Provide legal advice and otherwise assist other Departments on all shipping-related issues.
  • Handle loss of OB/L cases and apply Bank Guarantee procedures implemented by the Head Office Documentation Department.
  • Submit monthly reports highlighting key issues requiring intervention.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Monitor and handle court cases, appeals, writ petitions, and actions initiated by authorities such as Customs, DRI, SIIB, CBEC etc.
  • Appoint and liaise with reputable surveyors and outside counsels, in coordination with the Head Office Legal Department, including negotiating and recommending reasonable expenses.
  • Recommend improvements to the claims handling process and procedures.
  • Monitor and report on Indian case law and regulations impacting the company's scope of activity.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum graduate degree.
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in shipping industry and preferably with Cargo / Marine claims experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills, good reporting skills, trouble shooting and well-versed with Ms.-office tools, especially Excel & Power point.
