About the Role

This role will be based in Bangalore, India, offering a hybrid work option, allowing you to work from home and commute to a LinkedIn office depending on what's best for you and your team. You will have the opportunity to build the next-generation observability platforms for LinkedIn, including but not limited to:

  • Instrumenting applications and infrastructure to collect meaningful metrics, logs, and traces;
  • Collaborating with development teams to ensure consistent and comprehensive instrumentation across all systems;
  • Developing and maintaining libraries, frameworks, and tools to simplify instrumentation;

You will work closely with and influence product and/or technology partners regularly to help define roadmap, resolve conflicts between teams within the organization to get alignment and build a cohesive culture.

Responsibilities
  1. Scale distributed applications, make architectural trade-offs applying relevant design patterns, write code, and deliver speediness and quality;
  2. Develop multi-tier scalable, high-volume performing, and reliable user-centric applications that operate 24x7;
  3. Produce high-quality infrastructure that is thoroughly tested, code reviewed & resilient;
  4. Provide technical leadership, driving and performing best engineering practices to initiate, plan, and execute large scale, cross-functional, and company-wide critical programs;
  5. Identify, leverage, and successfully evangelize opportunities to improve the observability of our stack;
  6. Deliver impact by driving innovation while building and shipping software at scale;
  7. Implement and manage data aggregation/MELT(Metrics, Events, Logs, Tracing) instrumentation techniques, ensuring seamless integration of logs, traces and metrics from both applications and infra;
  8. Provide architectural guidance and mentorship to up-level the engineering organization;
  9. Actively improve the level of craftsmanship at LinkedIn by developing best practices and defining best strategies;
  10. Design products/services/tools and code that can be used by others while upholding operational impact of all decisions;
  11. Identify problems and opportunities and lead teams to architect, design, implement and operationalize systems;
  12. Work closely with and influence product and/or technology partners regularly to help define roadmap;
  13. Resolve conflicts between teams within the organization to get alignment and build a cohesive culture;
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • 10+ years of industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm-related solutions;
  • 10+ years of experience programming in object-oriented languages such as Java, C++, Python, Go, C and/or other Functional languages;
  • Hands-on experience developing large-scale observability platforms with a deep understanding of distributed systems, microservice architecture, pub-Sub systems, logging /metrics / tracing platforms;
  • 5+ years of experience in an architect or technical leadership position;
Preferred Qualifications

A plus if you have:

  • 5+ years of experience in data collection technologies such as Open Telemetry, cloud APIs, instrumenting infrastructure and application event data;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively articulate complex technical concepts;
  • Ability to navigate complex decision-making and effectively communicate across teams;
  • Experience leading by influence, formulating and driving technical strategies across various organizations/geographies;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, leading and mentoring others in observability best practices;
  • Maintainer or contributor of open source projects;
