Job Summary

Cruelty to Animals Investigator Position

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cruelty to Animals Investigator to conduct field investigations in various areas, including animal experimentation, food production, clothing manufacturing, entertainment, and labor.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Conduct short- and long-term investigations, including covert operations, from start to finish.
  • Research animal protection laws and issues, analyzing technical papers and videos.
  • Travel to and stay on location for extended periods, sometimes for several weeks or months at a time.
  • Obtain, inspect, and keep copies of relevant documents and paperwork during investigations.
  • Develop and work with trusted contacts during investigations, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Document conditions and use of animals, as well as illegal, cruel, and improper conduct through photography and videography.
  • Submit detailed daily log notes and log photos, videos, and other documentation carefully and meticulously.
  • Assess evidence for violations of laws and work with experts to assess investigation findings.
  • Prepare detailed reports of findings and cooperate fully in police and court proceedings that result from investigations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times and perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Investigative journalism or other relevant experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Brief veterinary knowledge or experience is a plus.
  • Experience as an Honorary Animal Welfare Representative, recognized by the Animal Welfare Board of India, is a plus.
  • Experience and confidence with audio-visual equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of animal protection laws and animal rights issues.
  • Fluency in English and Hindi.
  • Fluency in other Indian languages is a plus.
  • Proven ability to conduct in-depth research using a variety of means.
  • Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Diligent attention to detail and the ability to handle stress and trauma.
  • Willingness and ability to follow instructions carefully and make sound judgments.
  • Proven excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently in stressful environments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion at all times.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods if required.
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization.
