Mainframe Storage System Engineer Job Description

As a Mainframe Storage System Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the availability and performance of our storage infrastructure. This position requires expertise in mainframe storage subsystems to meet data storage and management needs effectively.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and maintain Mainframe storage subsystems for optimal compatibility, performance, and reliability.
  • Develop and implement storage capacity planning strategies to meet current and future storage requirements.
  • Configure and manage storage management software and utilities to automate storage administration tasks and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Monitor storage performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving bottlenecks to optimize data placement.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery and data replication solutions for Mainframe storage systems.
  • Collaborate with system administrators, database administrators, and application teams to support data backup and recovery operations and data migration projects.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and standards for storage administration tasks.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to internal teams and end-users, troubleshooting and resolving storage-related issues.
    • Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, and/or equivalent military experience.
    • 8+ years of experience in Mainframe storage subsystems, architecture, and management.
    • 8+ years of experience with storage management software and utilities such as DFSMS, DFSMSdss, and DFSMSrmm.
    • 8+ years of experience with storage virtualization technologies and concepts, including DASD, VTS, and SAN/NAS storage provisioning.
    • 8+ years of experience with storage networking protocols and technologies, such as FICON, Fibre Channel, and SCSI.
