Compliance Officer Role Summary

This is a key role in the Compliance Function, providing essential support to ensure effective coordination, maintenance, and documentation of compliance activities across the institution. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Assist the Head of Compliance in day-to-day management of compliance obligations (OfS, UK GDPR etc.).
  • Maintain compliance trackers and logs (e.g., risk register, GDPR incident log, training completion log, policy review calendar).
  • Monitor deadlines and ensure timely submission of statutory returns or compliance actions.

Key Responsibilities:

Documentation & Records Management
  • Maintain accurate records of data processing activities (RoPA)
  • Support handling of Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) requests.
  • Ensure all records of consent, privacy notices, and data processing agreements are properly archived and accessible.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in an administrative or compliance support role (3–5 years).
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and record-keeping.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Familiarity with data protection principles under UK GDPR.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Skills and Qualifications

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • Understanding of cybersecurity risks and controls, including the importance of breach notification procedures and secure data handling.
  • Previous experience in a higher education institution or public sector will be valued.
  • Awareness of Office for Students (OfS) regulatory framework.
