We are currently seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineering Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our infrastructure engineering team, you will provide counsel and advice to management on significant infrastructure matters, often requiring coordination between organizations.

This role involves serving as the lead technical consultant responsible for designing, engineering, and developing information technology solutions. You will lead the design, analysis, development, and implementation of engineering infrastructure solutions for projects and/or work requests for complex business solutions.

You will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure compatibility issues based on system architecture, project requirements, customer expectations, etc. Additionally, you may be involved in creating design specifications and developing utility programs, as well as resolving escalated infrastructure compatibility problems as they arise.

Your responsibilities may include risk assessments, partnering on capacity planning, budget forecasting, and diagnosing and correcting application/network problems. You may also serve as the primary contact for vendors.

The technologies used in this role span mainframe, midrange, desktop, server, network data, voice, messaging, web, database, and output/receiving. You will focus on providing thought leadership and technical expertise across multiple disciplines and be recognized internally as "the go-to person" for the most complex Infrastructure Engineering assignments.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing Kafka cluster build, including design, infrastructure planning, High Availability, and Disaster Recovery.
  • Implementing wire encryption using SSL, authentication using SASL/LDAP, and authorization using Kafka ACLs in Zookeeper.
  • Creating connect clusters and connector deployments.
  • Maintaining current Kafka clusters by performing upgrades, performance tuning, monitoring setup, adding new features, etc.
  • Researching new features and conducting proof-of-concept installation and testing.
  • Collaborating with various infrastructure, development, and administration teams.
  • Supporting Kafka in On-Premise, Cloud AWS, and Azure environments.
  • Assisting Application Teams with respect to their Kafka implementation and issue triage.
  • Working with Vendor partners to open cases and resolve issues.
  • Collaborating with the Security team to remediate product vulnerabilities.
  • Participating in performance and resiliency testing with Application Teams.
  • Implementing best practices and working with Product Owners to implement the roadmap.
  • Understanding provisioning resources in AWS and/or Azure.
  • Creating EC2 instances, EBS volumes, and security groups.
  • Having basic understanding of networking and load balancing, Okta integration.
  • Having basic automation skills using shell scripting, Ansible, and Terraform.

In order to be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Hands-on experience in creating topics, granting permissions, offset reset, troubleshooting issues, upgrading clusters, installing various Kafka components via Ansible scripts (broker, zookeeper, connect, schema registry, KSQL).
  • Familiarity with writing/updating Ansible scripts.
  • Experience with researching and POC of new features/technology.
  • AWS/Azure experience.
  • College degree (Bachelor) in related technical/business areas or equivalent work experience.

The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of Kafka administration experience and a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field. We are looking for a team player with excellent knowledge of UNIX/LINUX OS administration, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
