Job Title: Data Center Mechanical Design Expert

Summary: We are seeking an experienced Data Center Mechanical Design Expert with over 6 years of expertise in the design of mechanical solutions for hyperscale data centers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cooling System Design Leadership: Develop innovative cooling solutions for hyperscale data centers, including chilled water systems, direct expansion (DX) systems, air and liquid cooling technologies, and alternative cooling methods.
• Design and Optimize Cooling Infrastructure: Create cooling infrastructure that maintains desired temperature and humidity levels, ensuring efficient performance, system reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
• Awareness of Industry Standards: Familiar with industry standards such as ASHRAE, IEC, LEED, ISO, etc.
• Select and Specify Cooling Equipment: Select and specify cooling equipment, components, and materials, considering energy efficiency, scalability, and system integration.
• Buffer Tank Calculation & Thermal Override Calculation: Perform buffer tank calculation & thermal override calculation.
• Coordinate with Vendors: Collaborate with vendors for product selection and integration of equipment's in overall Master design.
• Tender Preparation: Prepare heat load calculation, power usage effectiveness calculations (PUE), technical specifications, schematics for Tendering.
• Detailed Design Drawings: Prepare detailed design drawings for Tendering purpose.
• BOQ & Make List: Prepare bill of quantities (BOQ), make list and coordinate with cost estimation team on cost and work schedule.
• Value Engineering Inputs: Provide value engineering inputs towards optimization, reliability, efficient design best practices.
• CFD Tool: Use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tool for validation of proposed design for HVAC system for design sign off.
• Bidder Query Resolution: Participate in bre-bid meetings and provide resolution to bidder queries.
• QA / QC Requirements: Coordinate with project management team & vendors for QA / QC requirements.
• Sites Visit: Conduct periodic site visits, factory visits for acceptance test, witnessing testing and commissioning.
• Test Scripts Validation: Validate test scripts for installation, start-up and witnessing the same.
• Quantity Certification: Certify quantity and validate all test reports.
• Thermal Load Analysis: Perform detailed thermal load analysis to assess heat generation and distribution within the data center, recommending cooling strategies that meet capacity and redundancy requirements.
• Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations: Utilize CFD simulations and other tools to model airflow and cooling efficiency, identifying potential areas for system optimization.
• Airflow & Chiller Plant Designs: Analyze and optimize airflow, chiller plant designs, and cooling tower systems to ensure that cooling systems are as energy efficient as possible.
• Cross Functional Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, architects, mechanical engineers, and contractors, to integrate cooling solutions with other building and data center systems.
• Project Management: Lead the technical aspects of cooling design throughout the project lifecycle, from concept through to installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Junior Engineer Oversight: Provide technical guidance and oversight to junior engineers, ensuring high-quality standards are met and maintained throughout the design and implementation phases.
• Design Documentation: Review and approve detailed design drawings, specifications, and commissioning documents related to cooling systems.
• Sustainability & Energy Efficiency: Design and implement sustainable and energy-efficient cooling systems, with a focus on minimizing energy consumption and the carbon footprint of data center operations.
• Renewable Energy Integration: Lead initiatives to integrate renewable energy solutions, waste heat recovery, or free cooling systems (e.g., using ambient air) into the data center cooling design.
• Energy Management: Contribute to the development and implementation of energy management strategies to reduce operational costs and improve environmental sustainability.
• System Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance and provide recommendations for further optimization or maintenance as needed.
• Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for all cooling system designs, specifications, and performance reports.
• Progress Updates: Provide regular progress reports and technical updates to stakeholders, including senior management and clients.
• Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks in the cooling design and propose strategies to mitigate them.
