About our Special School in Chennai

We are a part of The Madras Seva Sadan institution, providing special education and vocational training to children and adults with various disabilities.

Our school offers pre-vocational and vocational training programmes, including the NIOS curriculum, supported by a team of rehabilitation professionals offering physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy services.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement music lessons accommodating varying learning styles and abilities.
  • Use assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
  • Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to IEPs.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behaviour sensitively in line with positive behaviour support policies.
  • Organise performances, music therapy sessions, and school-wide musical events to showcase students' abilities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Carnatic/Hindustani Music, Certificate course in Music Therapy preferred.
  • 3-7 years of experience working with children in mainstream schools or special schools.
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education preferred.
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs preferred.
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education.
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing.
  • Knowledge of Tamil language mandatory.
  • Training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices.
  • Experience with communication aids.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
