Job Overview

The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop new products based on customer requirements for automotive applications.
  • Select standard parts, features, and materials that meet internal and customer target process and cost guidelines.
  • Verify designs involving 3D modeling (Concepts/APM models), proposal/detail drawings for costing/production, and conducting basic simulation studies.
  • Conduct design reviews and optimizations.
  • Release final parts/drawings for manufacturing.
  • Work closely with customers/sales/project managers to obtain clear VOC (voice of customer) and make engineering evaluations/proposals to customers.
  • Maintain a system-level understanding of customer applications and concepts necessary for providing solutions to customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with global manufacturing resources, procurement, and outside suppliers to meet TE technical, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Facilitate the transfer and support of new product introductions (NPI) into high-volume manufacturing.
  • Design jigs/fixtures for product testing as needed.
  • Drive VAVE, reverse engineering, and benchmarking of competitor products.
  • Support product environmental compliance and approvals for new products.
  • Provide technical support to customers, sales, project managers, and manufacturing teams.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's/master's degree in engineering (mechanical).
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art design tools such as Creo modeling, PDM Windchill, Geometric Dimension & Tolerancing (GD&T), GPS, tolerance stack-up, and simulation.
  • Basic knowledge in manufacturing processes (machining, molding, stamping, plating, etc.).
  • Brief familiarity with material properties (metal/plastic).
  • 8-12 years of experience in design and development of products, preferably in sensors and automotive backgrounds.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, passionate about results, and a good team player.
  • Strong technical aptitude with willingness to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Demonstrated experience in fast-paced environments with ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Good knowledge of measurement instruments/methods/validations.
  • Experience with DFA & DFMEA.
  • Leadership, communication, motivational, and administrative skills.
  • Independent project handling, new challenges, risk taking, and priority setting.
  • Technical design, development standards, best practices, and development guidelines assistance.
  • Root cause analysis and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of sensor fundamentals, sensor technology, and applications in the automotive industry (preferred).
