Job Overview

The Software Engineer-II designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. In this role, you will join a team maintaining a proprietary database management system running on z/OS with batch, interactive, and programming language interfaces as well as a web interface.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain and enhance data models of a proprietary database management system
  2. Maintain a proprietary application implemented on top of our database management system
  3. Optionally, contribute to maintenance of an existing Jakarta EE application with proprietary backend (Servlet, HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, proprietary procedure language, XML, JSON, TCP/IP, FTP)
  4. Optionally, participate in maintaining and applying the DevOps environment (Maven, Ant, Jenkins, Artifactory, git, Bitbucket, Jira) as well as mastering the product environment (z/OS, TSO, JCL, Linux)
  5. Learning and apply proprietary concepts and programming languages of the product
  6. Understand end-user requirements
  7. Write commercial/enterprise-grade software
  8. Provide input on designs for software enhancements and new products
  9. Ability to identify the presence of code problems, analyze and prepare solutions for discussion with senior engineers
  10. Document and communicate on technical topics without direction
  11. Seek to shadow other Engineers; working to debug customer issues
  12. Work under limited direction of a manager and/or team lead to implement software enhancements, correct defects, and/or create new products
  13. Proficient at programming while working in a team
  14. Team-oriented, collaborative, accountable, dependable
  15. Self-directed learning of the application subject matter
  16. Exercises curiosity
Required Qualifications:
  1. Minimum of 2+ years of software engineering experience
  2. Proven track record of software development in the real world
  3. Proficient in one or more programming languages
  4. First experience in data modelling, e.g. domain models, object oriented
  5. Ability to analyze existing software
Estimated Salary: $85,000 - $110,000 per year

This estimate is based on industry standards for software engineering positions in the United States.
