Job Description">

A Neurology Technician, also known as a Neurodiagnostic Technician or Neurophysiology Technician, plays a vital role in the healthcare team by performing diagnostic tests and procedures to assess and monitor the function of the nervous system. They work under the supervision of neurologists and other medical professionals in hospitals, clinics, or research settings.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Neurodiagnostic Testing: Conduct various diagnostic tests to evaluate the electrical activity and function of the nervous system, including electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS) to assess nerve function, and electromyography (EMG) to evaluate muscle activity.
  • Electrode Placement: Prepare and apply electrodes to the patient's scalp, body, or limbs according to specific test requirements, ensuring proper placement for accurate recordings and reliable test results.
  • Test Setup and Calibration: Set up equipment used for neurodiagnostic testing, verifying proper functioning and calibration of instruments, and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Patient Preparation and Education: Prepare patients for neurodiagnostic procedures by explaining the process, addressing concerns, and ensuring patient comfort. Obtain relevant medical histories, including information about medications or conditions that may affect test results.
  • Test Monitoring: Monitor patients closely during neurodiagnostic tests to ensure their safety and comfort, observing and documenting any changes or abnormalities in recorded signals, and promptly communicating them to the supervising physician.
  • Data Analysis and Report Generation: Analyze collected data from neurodiagnostic tests and generate reports summarizing findings. Provide preliminary interpretations to assist neurologists in diagnosing and treating neurological conditions.

A strong foundation in neuroanatomy, physiology, and neuroscience is essential, as well as experience working with neurodiagnostic equipment and software.
