Job Title: Surgical Coding Specialist

Our organization is seeking a skilled and experienced medical coder to join our team. As a surgical coding specialist, you will play a vital role in accurately coding surgical procedures performed on the same day as admission.

  • Review medical records, operative reports, and documentation for accurate coding of procedures and diagnoses.
  • Assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with coding guidelines and payer requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation when necessary.
  • Stay updated on changes in coding standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Provide education and support to clinical staff on proper documentation practices and coding requirements.
  • Assist in report preparation related to coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in health information management or a related field preferred.
  • Certification as a CPC, CCS, or similar credential is preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in medical coding, with specific experience in same day surgery coding preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures.
  • Proficient in coding software and electronic health record systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
