Job Description:

Primary Systems Design Engineer Role Summary

The Primary Design Engineer will be responsible for designing primary electrical systems/equipment within the HV/EHV electricity grid, switchgears, and power plants. This role involves ensuring that projects are executed in accordance with company procedures, contract specifications, and schedule commitments while adhering to international and local quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design primary systems for HV/EHV substations and power plants, ensuring reliable operation.
  • Prepare technical design documents, including general arrangement drawing, layouts, single line diagrams, sectional views, panel arrangements, cable schedules, earthing systems, and technical specifications.
  • Carry out site surveys, collection of information on the current situation of existing substations or power plants.
  • Present technical design of primary system drawings, detailed specification, etc. with customers and stakeholders for approval.
  • Work safely in an HV/EHV substation, adhering to HSE regulations and industry standards such as OSHA or equivalent guidelines to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.
  • Prepare load lists for auxiliary services such as AC distribution system, DC distribution system, and UPS/Inverter distribution system.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in analysis tools like ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or similar software.
  • Have knowledge of substation, power plant, and MV switchgear is mandatory.
  • Possess knowledge of load flow analysis and power system.
  • Possess knowledge of renewable energy integration, energy storage systems, and smart grid technologies.
  • Calculate equipment sizing such as transformer, diesel generator, cable, etc.
  • Provide technical support to site teams during construction works to ensure proper functionality within the electricity grid.
  • Ensure all engineering documentation such as basic design documents, system configurations, and standard operating procedures are accurate.
  • Work closely with project managers, secondary design engineers, civil design engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of primary systems/equipment.

Desired Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with a specific focus on HV/EHV substations, power plants, and switchgears.
  • Prior experience working with utilities in the UK or Europe providing familiarity with regional regulations and operational practices is advantageous for immediate deployment to assignments.
  • Knowledge of design tools like AutoCAD for SLD's, layouts, sectional views, cable schedules, earthing systems.
  • Proficiency in primary equipment sizing such as Aux. TR, Diesel Gen, cable, etc.
  • Familiarity with factory and site acceptance tests from design to approval phase.
  • Good communication skills with leadership qualities for team working.
